Technique and Emotion – engines of our projects

The engine in the RCR is not a replacement unit, nor an off-the-shelf solution. It is a carefully developed evolution of the classic Porsche flat-six, designed as an integral part of the RCR CARS restomod project. The starting point is the original 3.6-liter engine, which has been bored to 3.8 liters. The result is 375 horsepower and a high-revving character, with a safe redline at 8,200 rpm. The naturally aspirated setup preserves the essence of the classic 911 while delivering modern performance and responsiveness. A six-individual-throttle-body (ITB) system combined with electronic throttle control (DBW) provides precise input and smooth power delivery without sacrificing the analog driving feel. Many components of the engine have been redesigned from scratch. Valve covers, timing covers, and numerous details are CNC-machined from aluminum. The intake system and engine bay layout were developed to balance performance, serviceability, and aesthetics, resulting in the clean, purposeful look that defines the RCR engine compartment. The custom stainless-steel exhaust system is equipped with catalytic converters and meets Euro 4 emissions standards. Power is transmitted through a six-speed manual gearbox sourced from the Porsche 993, chosen for its mechanical feel and compatibility with the engine’s character. To ensure reliability under demanding conditions, the engine is supported by an upgraded oil cooling system featuring a central oil cooler and additional fans, designed for both spirited road driving and track use. In the RCR, the engine is more than a source of power. It defines the car’s response, sound, and driving experience—true to the RCR CARS philosophy, where engineering always serves the driver.
